E

Ex Machina (2014)

There was probably a lot of underlying messages and themes in this movie about consciousness and artificial intelligence that I just didn't get. The visuals were stunning, and the music really set the abstract and horror aspect of the movie.

G

Godzilla Minus One (2023)

Never watched a Godzilla movie before, so I was glad I watched this as the first one. It stuck with the original formula for Godzilla movies apparently, and I didn't mind the cliche plot. It's absolutely fucking awesome when Godzilla does the Atomic Breath; the sound design for it and the spine-chilling visuals of his scales glowing is so satisfying.

Good Omens (S1-S2) (2019-2023)

Love how unique this show is. It's whimsical in its own style, and the dialogue is so well written. Crowley and Aziraphale were due for a kiss a long time ago, and I'm glad it happened. This show was fun to watch since day one.

H

Hell is Other People (2019)

Started watching this for the (possible) gay plot, should have known it was a queerbait. Nothing really stood out, but I liked the haunted motel/apartment setting, and the main character's struggle with living in a cheap place.

I

Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)

I never thought I'd like listening to folk music, but the music in this movie (composed by Dave Van Ronk, a real folk singer) was really enjoyable to listen to. It follows the 'nomad' life that an aspiring folk singer goes through, dealing with tons of different people and trying to make a name for himself after the passing of his musician partner. I found it frustrating to watch Llewyn stumble so much, but it added to the message of the movie.

M

Miira no Kaikata (2018)

Just a super cute anime about a tiny baby mummy pet. Has a lot of other cute cryptids (from japanese mythology) in it too.

N

Nimona (2023)

Overall, really enjoyable movie! I thought the pacing was really fast, and the plot was predictable, but the characters are loveable and the score is surprisingly good? Nimona is really likeable, as well as Ballister.

O

Our Flag Means Death (2022)

They actually kissed in the first season?? This series was fun to watch, mainly because the main character's golden retriever energy, and Blackbeard being both funny and badass. Binged this in a day.

P

Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)

As a huge fan of the original film, I knew how much bad reception this one got. I tried watching it, and have mixed opinions about it.
Overall, the action is awesome and the score is good (not as good as Ramin Djawadi's score sadly, but that one was an unbeatable banger). Mako, Hermann, and Newt make a return, and I love how they were used for this story. But, the story was not as comprehensive, and the pacing and acting was very questionable. Also, what did they do to Gipsy Danger's design??

Puss in Boots (2022)

Besides going bat-shit crazy over the fairy tale aesthetic of the animation, I really enjoyed the tone of the movie. Whenever it was supposed to be funny, the jokes were hilarious. Whenever there was a serious fight, I was clinging onto the chair while the characters were hacking and slashing at each other. I really really enjoyed Death as a acharacter. He's badass, snarky, and an interestingly ambiguous character because of his nature. Also the voice for him was really well chosen, I love it.

S

Star Wars I-IX (1977-2019)

I rewatched the main episodes from the prequels to the recent series. What I love most about Star Wars was the extensively thought-out atmosphere (alien currency, high-tech starships, the different governments), and the dramatic story within the Skywalker legacy. Poe Dameron is also a blessing.

T

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse (2022)

It's a really good feel-good movie. I cried watching it. The mole is my favorite character.

The Card Counter (2021)

Lots of shots in this movie that I was in awe of. Also seeing Oscar Isaac gamble with a suit was a highlight.

The Equalizer 2 (2018)

Action was good, and the protagonist's strong moral compass was satisfying to watch. I like his tidy-up nature and his nurturing attitude towards other characters.

The Last of Us (2023)

Really good adaptation. Best video game to film adaptation ever. No joke.
I was a huge TLOU game fan before this show came out, and when it did, I was not disappointed. Everything different about the show from the game was all positive, and all the positives from the game that I was worried they would change or take out were there, with the original dialogue preserved to pay homage to the fans. Every episode is designed to make any human feel viscerally with the characters. Everything was thought out, and I thank the people who made it for that.

The Mandalorian S1-S3 (2019-2023)

Besides loving the fantasy behind the Star Wars Universe, I did love Din and Grogu's relationship (who didn't?). Season 1 had the best dialogue and flow compared to the rest, but that may be because I liked Din's 'lone ranger' life being the focus compared to the other seasons.

The Owl House (2020-2023)

Loveable characters, satisfying art style, and interesting magic system. The Owl House holds a lot to love over its limited release time. King is my favorite character.

Trigun Stampede (2023)

My past love for shonen and good animation made me instantly intrigued and excited while watching this anime. There's so much passion put into the animation, especially the action scenes. Vash is such a loveable character, and I love his interactions with Nick. Personally, the humanity-vs-the-end-of-the-world stuff was something I was already used to (which is the focal point of the ending), but the score and character interactions were so solid, I looked past it. I did find myself screaming at the screen everytime Vash was determined to have everyone stay alive.

Triple Frontier (2019)

This movie was a surprise. I was expecting an action-packed, thriller movie which it was. But it also delivered some of the best acting performances I've seen and involved a lot of plot and character studies that made it so easier to be involved in. There's parts where you'd think this character solely acts one way, but when things go to shit, they act completely different and it makes sense. I was on the edge of my butt throughout the entire experience mainly from the anticipation of seeing everything get fucked up because the beginning of the movie was feeling too good to be true. Overall, a great movie.
