As the chronological first movie in the Dragon Ball lore, I wasn't expecting much. It's not really talked about for a reason.

It's a retelling of the first few episodes of Dragon Ball but also includes an original story. I'm not sure why they didn't just have new content away from the show, because the retelling part took up most of the focus. The new stuff wasn't that interesting either; the blood rubies aren't fun (to me), and the villians were subpar. I did enjoy their names though (Bongo & Pasta).

But! I did enjoy the animation a lot. So it was worth the watch in the end.
